The Coronavirus is Causing Full Blown Panic
The Coronavirus pandemic that dominates the reporting of the national media is completely out of control. When I say it is completely out of control, I am not referring to the worldwide spread of the disease. I am referring to the worldwide spread of fear and panic it has caused.
Fear and panic will destroy you from the inside out and prohibit you from thinking clearly and rationally. Allowing fear to overwhelm you will make you a prisoner of your own negative thoughts. Why should we allow the Coronavirus to imprison us in a prison of fear that we create? We have a choice and a say in the matter. We can choose to not be a victim of fear.
Don’t misunderstand me. I realize the Coronavirus is a pandemic that has now spread throughout most of the world. We can be concerned about the situation, without being fearful about the situation. There is big difference between concern and fear. Concern is acknowledging there is a serious situation that needs to be considered and addressed. Fear is seeing a situation and automatically expecting the worst possible outcome. You should be concerned about your health, not afraid you’re going to die at any time. Go in any grocery store or Walmart and you will discover the masses of people have become fearful, not just concerned. In the stores we are seeing food counters completely obliterated of food. Isles that normally are busting at the seams with toilet paper are completely bare! Fear has paralyzed people into a full blown panic!
Simply Use Common Sense During This Time
While the Coronavirus is taking it’s world tour, don’t panic. All you need to do is exercise common sense. If you are feeling flu-like symptoms, stay home. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. This is especially important after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing; going to the bathroom; and before eating or preparing food. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Sanitize high-touch surfaces in your home. These would include counters, tabletops, doorknobs, bathroom fixtures, and computer keyboards.
Lastly, avoid contact with any friends or family members who are showing signs of flu-like symptoms. And if you happen to sneeze or cough, cover your mouth or nose with your forearm (not your hand).
All of this is common sense and things you should have been doing anyway, regardless of whether there is a pandemic occurring or not.
The Cornavirus will Soon Be Gone and Life Will Go On.
There have been numerous disease outbreaks in our lifetime. There was the SARS virus of 2003. The H1N1 pandemic occurred in 2009. Ebola came onto the scene in 2014. These are just a few of the disease outbreaks we have seen in our lifetime. How much do you hear about these diseases today? You hear virtually no media talk about these diseases today. You don’t hear about them because like all disease outbreaks, they came and they went. The world didn’t end. Life continued on as it always had. Little is different about the Coronavirus situation. The only difference is the national media is more liberal than ever before. The media is marketing fear to it’s viewer in an effort to politicize the situation to fit politically biased agendas.
Most of the deaths related to the Coronavirus have been involving older people with compromised immune systems. These particular people would be at higher risk during almost any disease outbreak. Younger people who have contracted the disease have reported that their symptoms were very mild and not any worse than any regular flu.
Here is some insight from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). According to the CDC, the new coronavirus has led to more than 100,000 illnesses and more than 3,000 deaths worldwide. But that’s nothing compared with the flu, also called influenza. In the U.S. alone, the flu has caused an estimated 34 million illnesses, 350,000 hospitalizations and 20,000 deaths this season. So you really need to stop and ask yourself whether the media is blowing the Coronavirus out of proportion.
Don’t Let this Pandemic Immobilize you in Fear.
Fear is never a good thing and should never be part of your life. If you are a Christian person as I am, you know God is not the author of fear. The Bible says in 2nd Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and a sound mind.” God doesn’t want you to be afraid. In the Bible, we are instructed by God to “fear not” over 300 times! God wanted to make it very clear to us that we shouldn’t live in fear.
Fear will keep you from doing the things God has called you to do. It will keep you from becoming the person that God knows you can be. Fear will place you into a self-imposed prison. When you are imprisoned by fear, you can’t think or act rationally. The prison of fear is a prison no other person can free you from. Only you have the key to the prison door. You must free yourself by trusting God, and not allowing fear to hold you captive.
A year from now the Coronavirus will just be a memory and you will be fine. In the meantime, relax and trust God. God has great plans for you and fear will distract you from those plans. Don’t let the media and the mass panic surrounding us deter you from the happiness and peace God wants you to have. Life is way too short to live in fear.
