Have you ever been in a place in your life where you wanted to make serious changes to your life and situation, but were faced with a multitude of problems that seemed like a vast sea in front of you? Maybe even as you read this, you are in a situation like that now. I’ve been in situations like that myself in the past, and I can relate to being overwhelmed with seemingly impossible situations. Sometimes we come to a place in our life that we feel like our back is against the wall, and we don’t know where to turn or what to do. In times like this, we may feel like we have done absolutely everything we know to do, and every possible solution to our problems may seem to be gone. During times like this, the goals and dreams we have made for our lives seem like an unreachable star that has no chance of ever becoming reality. If you are in a situation similar to this, I have good news for you. God can make a way where there seems to be no way!
There is an awesome passage of scripture that is found in the Bible in the book of Isaiah. The passage of scripture I am referring to is found in verses 16-19 of the 43rd chapter of Isaiah. I would love to share this passage with you! It is an awesome bit of scripture that is full of hope for all of us. Look at what the Bible ( New International Version) says in these verses. It says,” This is what the Lord says—he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters, who drew out the chariots and horses, the army and reinforcements together, and they lay there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick: Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
This passage in Isaiah is making reference to the incredible miracle that God performed for the Israelite people when they had fled from bondage in Egypt. The people of Israel had spent the previous 400 years as prisoners and slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt. God used Moses to deliver the people from the grip of slavery and bondage in Egypt, and they had started their journey towards the land that God had promised them. Not long after Pharaoh had agreed to let the people go, he had a change of heart, and decided to send the armies of Egypt out to chase after Moses and the people of Israel. After traveling many miles, the people of Israel hit a roadblock that stood between them and their dream of the Promised Land. That roadblock was the Red Sea. Soon after the people were confronted with the Red Sea, they realized Pharaoh and the Egyptian army was pursuing them. The people became paralyzed by fear and started to panic! They even started to grumble to Moses saying that they were better off back in Egypt as slaves. They reasoned that being back in Egypt was better than dying in the wilderness at the hands of the Egyptians!
Can you relate the situation that the people of Israel were in to a situation that you have faced, or may be facing now? I certainly can! I have been in situations in my life before where I was running from the pain and problems of my past, and I so desperately wanted to change and reach a new place in my life…but I was blocked by even bigger problems. Sometimes in situations like this, just like the people of Israel, there is the temptation to give up on your dream of your “promise land”, and simply settle and go back to your “Egypt”. Sometimes in life, we are going to be faced with what seems like insurmountable problems that we have no chance of overcoming. These “Red Sea” places in our lives can be things such as major family problems, intense financial struggles, habits you can’t seem to break free of, or addictions that seem to have you in a death grip. The possible situations or scenarios are endless. What is the “Red Sea” of problems that you are facing? Let me remind you that in the situation with the people of Israel, God directed the people of Israel down a path that He KNEW would end up at the edge of the Red Sea! You may wonder what I am getting at. My point is simply this; God may have allowed problems to block your journey of life in order that He could have the opportunity to prove Himself to be God! When you are faced with what seems like a sea of problems that you have no way of overcoming, the door is opened for God to perform a miracle for you and split the sea of your problems wide open so that you can get to the other side. The key is that you have to put God first in your life and trust Him, and know that He is in control! God doesn’t want to take you AROUND your problems. He wants to takes you THROUGH your problems! Even though He could take you around your problems, you will experience far more personal growth in your life, and God will get more glory if He takes you through your problems! And the great thing about it is when God works out your problems; He NEVER does anything half way! Sometimes when we try to work out our own problems, we mess things up and create bigger problems for ourselves. When God split the Red Sea for the Israelites, He not only parted the waters, but He dried the ground so that the people didn’t have to walk though the mud!
I encourage you today to not give up on your dreams, and know that regardless of what problems you are facing, we still have a God in Heaven that performs miracles! The Bible tells us that God is the same God yesterday, today, and forever! God doesn’t change, and He is no respecter of people! The same miracles that God performed in the Bible, God can perform today! What He did for the people of Israel, He will do for you as well! God can and will split the Red Sea of the problems that you face if you will only continue to trust him!
So, keep your chin up, trust God, and don’t give up! God may be just about ready to split the sea wide open for you! Just as the scripture passage says, you have to forget the former things! Forget what is behind you and press on! God is dong a new thing! Are you ready?

Until next time,
