Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! The older we get the faster time seems to fly. As a kid, if my Mother told me I had to wait a year for something, that year seemed like an eternity! Now that Im older, a year seems to fly by in a blink!
Near a year’s end, we all hear talk about New Years resolutions. Many people want to acomplish things like becoming physically fit, quiting smoking, mending broken relationships, or improving their finances. I have mixed feelings about New Years resolutions. A New Years resolution is just another name for a goal. Unfortunately, New Years resolutions too often become nothing more than empty promises we make to ourselves. Often, people are not mentally or emotionally committed to keeping the resolutions they make.
New Years Resolutions
Perhaps people make New Years resolutions because they feel the new year is a fresh start. It is similar to wiping the slate clean. Truthfully, we should be setting self-improvement all year long. Why do we wait until the start of a New Year to decide we need to change? Continued personal growth involves continuous change. As we continue to grow personally, we abandon our old thoughts and attitudes. Personal growth requires us to think differently.
There are opportunities for all of us to make changes in our thoughts, attitudes, and mindsets. Success is largely dependant upon the quality of your thoughts. There are a few specific keys that are important for us to focus on. I would like to share them with you.
Key # 1– Put a relationship with God first and foremost in your life.
This key is the most important. This key is vital to resolving many other problems and issues in your life. Humans were created by God to have fellowship and a relationship with the Creator. Without a relationship with God, we have no chance of achieving our full potential. Only though God can we become all God intended for us to be.
In the Bible in Matthew 6:33 it says, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” What are the things that will be added unto us? They are the things we want to see come to pass in our lives. The “things” could be better family relationships, better financial situations, or any number of improvements we want in our life. Psalms 37:4 says, “ Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.“
Key # 2- Get your finances and spending under control.
Nothing adds stress and frustration to your life like debt. Sadly, society gauges success by a person’s possesion’s, the newness of their car, and the size of their house. This mentality has driven masses of people to spend money they don’t have and to live beyond their means. Jesus said in Luke 12:15, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.” (New Living Translation)
Debt will place you into a self-imposed prison of stress. Make a decision in 2018 to begin paying off all your junk debt, credit cards, and other debts. Debt has a way of devouring your paychecks! If you want some great financial advice, I recommend the teaching and debt reduction strategies of Dave Ramsey. Using Dave Ramsey’s principles, my wife and I have paid off thousands of dollars of debt. As a result, we are down to nothing but a mortgage. Dave Ramsey is one of the foremost authorities and educators in the nation on the subject of eliminating debt. You can find information about Dave Ramsey on his website at www.daveramsey.com.
Key # 3- Adopt a mindset of thinking big.
The Bible says in Proverbs 3:27, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” You will eventually become what you think. If you want to change your life, change your thoughts. Your life will never exceed the limitations of your thoughts.” Too often we shortchange ourselves by thinking too small. Small thinking limits personal growth.
In 2018, I encourage you to take a chance! Stop dreaming about your dream and start ACTING upon your dream! Write that book you have dreamed of writing! Start that business that has only been an idea and a dream! Every success story started somewhere! Don’t put your dream off any longer! What have you got to lose? If you fail, you will still be far ahead of the person who isn’t trying. You may be at the threshold of an incredible breakthrough in your life. The only thing you have to do is take the step of faith to walk through the door! You can do it!
2018 can be your best year ever!
Of course, many other things will help 2018 be your best year ever. However, these suggestions are the ones I feel will have the greatest impact on your life. If you start with these, the sky is the limit to your success! My wife Janet and I consider ourselves tremendously blessed.
As you read this, our prayer is that 2018 will be the greatest year of personal growth you have ever experienced. There are great things in store for you in 2018! Greatness dwells deep inside you just waiting to be pulled out by faith. Happy New Year everyone! Go out, get busy, and pursue your dreams! In doing so, you will change your life and the world around you!
