Fingerprints are everywhere. The science of fingerprints is amazing. No two people have the same fingerprints; yours are unique. The odds of your fingerprints matching those of anyone else in the world are one in 64 billion! That’s incredible! Scientists say that fingerprints are even more unique than DNA! Identical twins can share the same DNA, but never the same fingerprints! And, your fingerprints stay the same from birth until you die; they never change!
Fingerprints serve to identify us and are left behind on everything we touch. Have you ever been fingerprinted? I remember submitting my fingerprints electronically to the FBI when I applied for my Missouri concealed carry gun permit. The fingerprints I submitted will positively identify me. Anything I touch will leave undeniable evidence leading back to me.
We have left our fingerprints on everything we’ve touched. In a similar manner, everything God has touched has his fingerprints upon it. God’s fingerprints leave undeniable evidence leading back to God himself. Simply walk outdoors on a starry night and look up. When you do, you will see the fingerprints of God. Psalm 8:3-4 says,”When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? Also in Psalm 19:1 we are told, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” God created everything that exists on the earth. John 1:3 tells us, “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” So, as you can see, all creation has the fingerprints of God.
All creation has God’s fingerprints because He has had involvement with everything. He has touched everything that exists; including you. You are God’s handiwork. Of all creation, mankind is his masterpiece. The Psalmist David spoke to God saying, “You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
Because mankind was created by God and made in his likeness and image, his fingerprints are upon your life. God created you with the potential for greatness. You may not see evidence that God’s hand has been upon you, but I can assure you it has. His fingerprints are all over you.
When your kids were very small, they may have left little fingerprints everywhere. Sometimes they were left on the bathroom mirror, sometimes on the refrigerator, or maybe even on the walls. Those little fingerprints served as evidence and reminders of their presence in your home.
Do you remember the last time you cleaned a window before it had sunlight crashing through it? More than likely, when you looked through that same window later in the day, you saw fingerprints you didn’t see before. Unless light is passing through glass, seeing fingerprints is very difficult. Light has a way of exposing fingerprints.
Life is like the window and the sunlight. When you don’t have the light of God’s word illuminating your life, seeing his fingerprint on your life is nearly impossible. Without a relationship with God, seeing his handiwork in your life and the world is difficult. Once you establish a relationship with God, his fingerprints can be clearly seen. Then you realize his hand has been on your life and situations even when you didn’t realize it.
The light a relationship with God provides enables you to see his handiwork in everything. God’s fingerprints in your life are the things that prove his involvement. They remind you of his presence. It’s those times you couldn’t have made it without his help. It’s the things you have overcome that would have destroyed you had God not been there. His fingerprints on your life are reminders to you that he is always there and always ready to help you. If you will simply trust him, he will see you through every time.
You cannot escape the presence of God. In Psalm 139, David said, “I can never escape from your Spirit!
I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.” (Psalm 139: 7-10) I love the last part of that passage of scripture. It says …”even there your HAND will guide me, and your strength will support me.” God’s hand and his fingerprints are upon you.
Regardless of what you’ve done, or where you’ve been in life, God’s fingerprints are upon you. If you read the Bible and seek God’s will for your life, the light of Christ will shine through you. When that happens, just like the window, you will clearly see the fingerprints of God in your life. The world around you will see them as well. God has a purpose and plan for your life. When you become able to see God’s fingerprints on your life and everything around you, you will find peace. Then you will know, he has been there the whole time.
